So many benefits of the different recitations of the Qur’aan

Among the benefits not mentioned in this article, and may Allaah reward the author and the translator, is the effect of these variations on the Tafseer (commentary).

Sadly, this is one area where there is a certain ‘bias’ in the modern era. Many of the works of tafseer are based, almost exclusively, on the Hafs reading. This misses much of the subtlety and nuance that is present in the totality of the revelation which can only be fully experienced by a knowledge of these different recitations. Perhaps the closest anyone has come, at least in English, is the Bridges translation of the Qur’aan. It tries to capture some of the linguistic nuance as well as the subtle differences in the meanings inherent in the different modes. It’s enlightening, to say the least.

I encourage all of you to look for someone who can share that depth of knowledge very few have access to and see the religion anew. All thanks and praise is due to Allaah for having guided us to al-Islaam.
