About Decaf Sugarcane Process

The Sugarcane Decaffeination refers to a natural process, which not just maintains the overall integrity of the coffee flavor while allowing for more efficiency and greater transparency. Once dried and milled, the Sugarcane Decaf (GP) coffee is transported to a local plant for the uniquely Colombian “Sugarcane Process” (EA Process).

The beans are first treated with water and steam to increase moisture and facilitate caffeine extraction. They are then washed with ethyl acetate (EA), a naturally occurring compound derived from locally grown sugarcane, which binds with caffeine and removes it. After multiple rounds of rinsing, the beans are cleaned with steam, washed with cold water, and dried to restore their original moisture levels.

In Colombia, where sugarcane is abundant, this method is both economically and environmentally sustainable. The result is a naturally decaffeinated coffee that retains its rich sweetness and full-bodied flavor.
