Introduction: My name is Melba Chitanda. I am a therapist with Wings of the Future. I came onboard the company in November 2023.
Background: I was in the United States Navy from years 2000 through 2004 and was honorably discharged. I then acquired a Bachelors in Business Administration and subsequently a Master’s degree in Social Work. I am a licensed Social Worker in Texas, and a current Doctoral Candidate at Capella University. I am due to graduate in the summer of 2025 and I have been providing therapy services since 2021.
Passion for Therapy: I was in the mortgage servicing industry for fifteen years and I worked to help homeowners retain their properties. During my mortgage career I learned that I had a passion for helping people, but I always felt like I was in the wrong field. I found passion in talking to homeowners and the life issues they faced during the economic mortgage struggle of 2008. In 2020, I decided to pursue a new career and earn a Masters in Social Work. I learned the endless possibilities there are in making a difference in people’s lives. Today I enjoy my career and the interactions I have with clients.
Therapy Style: I approach therapy in a Trauma-Informed style. I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy and acceptance commitment therapy.
Philosophy: Treat everyone with respect, kindness, non-judgmental and understanding. You never know what a person is going through, and simple acts of kindness can be life-changing for a person.
Personal Touch: I came from an underprivileged family and witnessed domestic violence that led to childhood trauma. I grew up with several family members that experienced mental health issues and witnessed up close the effect of post-traumatic stress in veterans. Mental health hits close to home and as a result I am passionate about helping people thrive despite their challenges.
